Minebea was founded in 1951 as Japan's first manufacturer to specialize in miniature ball bearings. As of July 2001, the Company's 50th anniversary, the Minebea Group has grown to become a leading global supplier of high-precision mechanical and electronic components, operating 32 plants and 52 sales offices in 14 countries and employing approximately 44,000 people.
Miniature and small ball bearings and electronic components, which include a variety of small motors and keyboards are manufactured at Minebea's plants in Thailand, the Group's largest manufacturing base, and at other plants in Asia, the United States and Europe. These bearings and components are used in information and telecommunication equipments, such as PCs, and household electrical appliances, such as VCRs, video cameras and air conditioners, all of which have become essential to modern-day living.
In both of these key markets, technical advance and the demand for higher performance and greater miniaturization continue to shorten product life cycles. Consequently, manufacturers in these industries demand higher-quality and more reliable supplies of bearings and components. The thorough integration of manufacturing processes, encompassing the production and maintenance of dies, in-house production of all parts, and final assembly, enables Minebea to respond precisely to the needs of its customers.
