LG was founded in 1947 as Lak Hui Chemical Industrial Corp. and has played a significant role in Korea’s corporate history ever since. Eleven years later Goldstar was established in the aftermath of the Korean War to provide the rebuilding nation with domestically-produced consumer electronic and home appliance products.
The 1960’s was a period of great innovation marked by a number of firsts. During this decade,LG manufactured the first radio, refrigerator, TV, air conditioner, and washing machine under the “Made in Korea” label.
The 1970’s and 1980’s were a period of rapid growth and the beginning of LG’s globalization.Together, Lucky and Goldstar drove the rebuilding of Korea.
In 1995, the company officially adopted the name LG Electronics and changed its corporate identity to prepare for the global challenges ahead.
The first decade of the new millennium was a significant period for LG Electronics.LG became a market leader in flat panel TVs, mobile phones as well as washing machines.By the end of the decade, LG was ranked among the top three in all three categories in terms of sales.
Since 2010, LG has honed its strategy of being faster and working smarter to lead the market.LG established Smart Business Center to prioritize innovation and introduced a variety of "smarter" mobile devices, TVs and appliances. And in recent years LG has taken a leadership role in OLED TVs and Ultra HD TVs, the next generation of home entertainment products.
