The Xayaburi Dam is a hydroelectric dam under construction on the Lower Mekong River approximately 30 kilometres (19 mi) east of Xayaburi (Sainyabuli) town in Northern Laos. The 1,285 MW Xayaburi Hydroelectric Power Project is one of the largest electricity generating projects on the mainstream of the Lower Mekong River. The project is surrounded in Preliminary construction began in early 2012.
