Its history dated back 35 years ago when the company was established on April 11, 1973 as "NS Electronics Ltd.," a subsidiary of the national Semiconductor Corporation Group of Companies, USA - a leading manufacturer of high quality micro-electronic Semiconductors for global markets. The company name was later changed to "National Semiconductor (Bangkok) Co.," On October 17, 1980, and to " NS Electronics Bangkok (1993) Ltd.," in March 1993. NSE has been the first company to produce integrated circuit panels (ICs) in Thailand. The company has received BOI Lifetime promotion privileges since July 26, 1973.

Initial production began at a temporary plant on Poo Chao Samingprai Road with a workforce of only 600. To response to rising demand of ICs in the electronic industry, NSE decided to expand its production lines and capacity by building a new office and manufacturing plant on a 16-rai plot of land at 40/10 Sukhumvit 105 (Soi Lasalle), Bangna. Although in 1993 ownership of the company was transferred to Thai investors, NSE continue to ensure that its products meet exact specifications and prices and prices remain competitive. Today UTAC Thai employs More than 6,000 persons, including engineers, workers and staff. There are 3 Manufacturing Factories in Thailand. The company produces and tests several types of ICs, not only for National Semiconductor Corporation, but also for several other companies in the USA, European and Asian countries, e.g., Atmel Corporation, California Micro Devices, Catalyst Semiconductor, Elantec Semiconductor, Fairchild Semiconductor, Maxim Intergrate Products, Microchip Technology, Pericom Semiconductor Corporation, Philip Semiconductors, Silicon Storage Technology, Telcom Incorporation and Unitrode Integrated Circuits. Using USA technology, know-how and technical support partially from National Semiconductor Corp., NSE is able to produce and test several types of ICs to accommodate specific needs in the electronic industry, such as Plastic Dual Inline (PDIP), Plastic Leaded Chip Carriers (PLCC), Small Outline Integrated Circuit (SOIC), Thin Small Outline Package (TSOP) Shrink Small Outline Package (SSOP), Small Outline Transistor (SOT), Quad Flat non leaded (QFN), Dual Flat non leaded (DFN) and more recently the Chip Scale Package (CSP) ICs production involves relatively complicated process and advanced technologies. Quality control plays the most important part in every process, from the initial selection of raw materials to the final stage of product delivery. Electrical and product reliability testing is utilized to certify the product's lifetime durability. Due to the company's high quality products and excellent manufacturing performance, UTAC Thai has been recognized by its customers, investors and suppliers as the "most flexible, responsive and successful" electronic assembly and test manufacturer in industry. Since 1994 UTAC Thai has been certified by Ford Q1 and by three ISO 9002 attesting - AT&amp;T QR, EQR Inc. (now changed to be Det Norst Veritas, DNV) and TISI - certifying that it's services and technical capabilities meet both American and European quality systems standards. Moreover, Semiconductor Assembly Council (SAC) has certified UTAC Thai the SAC Level I in 1998. More recently, UTAC Thai has now been QS 9000 certified by DNV.
