BASIC FUNCTIONS REQUIRED:
Serve as the Chief of the Molecular Section, Department of Virology for the Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Sciences (AFRIMS). This is a professional, highly trained locally employed staff (LE) position who is fully responsible for designing and directing cutting edge molecular research on infectious disease caused by viruses. Pathogens include, but are not limited to, dengue, chikungunya, influenza, and Japanese encephalitis. Job holder designs studies, seeks funding, prepares research protocols, collaborates with an international network of molecular biologists, supervises execution of research, manages the molecular biology section, analyzes study results, and publishes findings.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
(1) Education: This position requires a PhD or host country equivalent in the Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Bacteriology, or Medical Virology fields is required.
(2) Experience: At least five (5) years of clinical and/or research-based experience is required. At least one (1) year of supervisory experience is required.
(3) Language: (This may be tested.)
• Fluent (Reading/Writing/Speaking) of Thai is required.
• Fluent (Reading/Writing/Speaking) of English is required. You can submit a copy of valid TOEIC score (Listening and Reading Section) of at least 855, or pass the English Placement Test (EPT) that is conducted by the Human Resources Office.
(4) Skills: (This may be tested.)
• Must possess established skills in molecular laboratory techniques as applied to pathogen identification and characterization.
• Must be able to perform data entry, analysis and interpretation of laboratory data.
• High proficiency in computer software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), as well as data analysis platforms and bioinformatics tools (e.g., Notepad++, MEGA, BioEdit, Sequencher, EDGE, and Geneious Prime).
• Must possess hands-on experience in both laboratory procedures and preliminary data analysis related to next generation sequencing (NGS), with the ability to independently design, develop, and optimize molecular assays.
(5) Knowledge: (This may be tested.)
• Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of molecular biology techniques and assays as applied to pathogen identification and characterization. Must possess experience with bioinformatics (BI) tools and next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies, as well as the ability to design, develop, and optimize molecular assays independently.
