Purpose of the role
The Science technician will undertake duties to support the running of the Science Department. This will include supporting staff with experiment preparation and clearing away equipment. Oversee maintenance and storage of equipment and chemicals. The Science Technician will also work cooperatively with other technicians, teaching staff, and other staff in the school under the management of the Head of Science and the guidance of the Senior Science Technician.
Responsibilities
General Responsibilities
1. Prepare materials and equipment for science lessons, including chemical solutions and experiments.
2. Maintain science laboratories and preparation rooms and their equipment, and services in good order and in line with health and safety expectations
3. Play an active role in developing innovative and inspiring practical Science lessons
4. General duties in support of the teachers in the Science Department
5. Be proactive with all health and safety issues by keeping up to date with CLEAPSS guidelines specific to your role
6. Check and maintain general lab equipment, and check stock levels of chemicals.
7. Help keep stock rooms ordered and clean
8. Liaise with procurement to order items and purchasing of general items locally
9. Liaise with the maintenance and janitorial teams as needed.
10. Keep labs clean and well-maintained, including clearing away and cleaning of lab equipment
11. Carry out other general duties outlined by the Head of Science and the Senior Science Technician

Safety
1. Understand and strictly follow the CLEAPSS Safety Rules and Regulations at all times
2. Understand and strictly follow the chemical storage procedure at all times
3. Understand basic emergency procedures concerning the safety of students and staff
4. Perform regular monitoring of the eyewash station and shower
5. Perform regular monitoring of the safety glasses, gloves, sand tank and fire extinguisher
6. Check equipment safety, including bunsen burners etc.
7. Deal with the chemical spills and provide first aid appropriately
8. Carry out risk assessments for technical activities
9. Attend appropriate training courses
10. Dispose of waste materials safely and in line with the agreed procedure
11. Advise and work with staff if there are any issues, including safety concerns
Academic Support
1. To support the assigned faculty in the preparation of lessons and resourcing.
2. To support teaching and learning in the faculty under the direction of the teachers.
3. To support the faculty with the administration of learning and enrichment activities.
4. To accompany teaching staff on enrichment trips and activities during the school week
5. Preparation of other specified project resources as requested.
