BASIC FUNCTIONS REQUIRED:
The job holder monitors Thai press and media coverage of issues of importance to the United States in online, emerging, non-traditional, niche, and specialty media. Identifies and advises Mission leadership on strategies for promoting accurate and balanced Thai press and media coverage of U.S. foreign policy and American interests, correcting misinformation, and countering disinformation. Builds productive relationships with influential figures in emerging and specialty media sectors in person and online. The Press and Media Coordinator works under the direct supervision of the Press and Media Specialist or Public Affairs Officer (PAO) designee and has no supervisory responsibilities.
Mission Thailand is an OSM 5 post, a large multi-agency mission located in a country of major importance to the United States. Thailand has a high level of regional and global influence; the United States and Thailand interact in a wide range of bilateral, multilateral, and global issues.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
(1) For the experience and education requirements applicants must meet either option 1 or option 2 to qualify.
Option 1
Standard Qualification Requirements: FSN-9
Experience:
Four years of experience in a media outlet, international organization, government, or the private sector, with experience in communications, journalism, public relations, or public affairs is required.

Education:
A university degree in Journalism, Communications, International Relations, Political Science, Economics, or local equivalent is required.
OR
Option 2
Substitution of Experience for Education: FSN-9
Experience:
Six years of experience in a media outlet, international organization, government, or the private sector, with experience in communications, journalism, public relations, or public affairs is required.

Education:
Completion 2 years of full-time study at college or university is required.
(2) Language: (This may be tested.)
• Fluent (Reading/Writing/Speaking) of English and Thai is required. You can submit a copy of valid TOEIC score (Listening and Reading Section) of at least 855, or pass the English Placement Test (EPT) that is conducted by the Human Resources Office.
(3) Skills: (This may be tested.)
• Analytic skills: Identify, predict, and assess press/media and public attitudes across policy areas; advise Mission leaders on opportunities and sensitive challenges; perceive significant changes in Thai influence landscape and adjust press and media operations.
• Communication skills: Excellent written and oral communication in English and Thai for public speaking, briefings, reports, and press products; ability to identify and engage influential voices in emerging and non-traditional media.
• Management skills: Organize and run press conferences, interviews, workshops, and journalism training seminars.
• Technical skills: Familiarity with TV, video, and digital production to oversee coverage logistics; proficiency with digital tools such as social media, photo editing, file sharing, AI models, and media monitoring/sentiment analysis.
• Availability: Must be available to travel throughout Thailand.
(4) Knowledge: (This may be tested.)
• Comprehensive understanding of Thai press and media institutions, professional journalism standards and practices, and trends in audience preferences for information and news consumption.
• Understanding of new communication and digital media trends in Thailand and internationally.
• Knowledge of U.S. foreign policy objectives and American interests in Thailand, especially as they apply to press and media professionals, outlets, and online publications.
• Knowledge of digital marketing techniques, marketing analysis, and audience analytics in Thailand.
