Senior Mechanical Engineer (Automation Systems, Machine Design & Project Leadership) - YAW NGIAP (THAILAND) CO., LTD.

Key Responsibilities

a)      Mechanical Design and Engineering

·       Lead the mechanical design and development of automation systems, special-purpose machines, production equipment, assembly fixtures, jigs, and material-handling systems.

·       Develop machine concepts, layouts, detailed designs, and manufacturing drawings based on customer requirements using “Autodesk Inventor”.

·       Perform engineering calculations and select suitable mechanical components.

·       Prepare and review detailed parts drawings, build BOM, technical specifications, and engineering documentation for fabrication and assembly.

·       Ensure designs meet requirements for functionality, safety, reliability, maintainability, cost, and production feasibility.

·       Apply knowledge of machine mechanisms, pneumatics, conveyors, guarding, and industrial automation components.

·       Review customer specifications and translate technical requirements into practical engineering solutions.

b)      Project Execution

·       Take ownership of mechanical engineering activities throughout the complete project lifecycle, from concept to design, fabrication, assembly, commissioning, and final acceptance.

·       Coordinate with electrical, controls, software, production, purchasing, and project management teams.

·       Monitor design schedules, technical risks, material requirements, and engineering changes.

·       Support project cost estimation and identify cost-effective design alternatives.

·       Coordinate with local and overseas suppliers regarding technical specifications, component selection, fabrication quality, delivery, and problem resolution.

·       Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests, and project handover.

c)      Assembly, Testing, and Commissioning

·       Provide technical guidance to technicians and machine builders during fabrication and assembly.

·       Troubleshoot mechanical problems during machine assembly, testing, installation, and production trials.

·       Support machine installation and commissioning at customer sites.

·       Analyze equipment failures, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.

·       Improve machine performance, cycle time, durability, ease of maintenance, and operator safety.

·       Provide technical support and training to customers when required.

d)      Team Leadership

·       Coach and provide technical guidance to junior mechanical engineers, designers, draftsmen, and technicians.

·       Review and discuss mechanical designs and drawings with Head of Business and Engineering Solutions, before release for fabrication.

·       Establish and improve mechanical design standards, drawing practices, component libraries, checklists, machine operation manual, and engineering procedures.

·       Encourage practical problem-solving, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement within the engineering team.

·       Support multiple projects and prioritize activities in a fast-moving SME environment.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical/Mechatronics/Automation Engineering, or a related discipline.
• At least 6-7 years of relevant engineering experience, including significant experience in industrial automation, customized machinery, or machine building.
• At least 2 years of experience leading projects or guiding junior engineers and technicians is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, machine elements, manufacturing processes, materials, tolerances, and engineering drawings.
• Proficiency in 3D mechanical design software such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, or equivalent software.
• Experience designing automation equipment such as assembly machine, conveyors, robotic cells, testing machines, pick-and-place systems, or material-handling equipment.
• Good understand of pneumatic systems, motors, gearboxes, actuators, sensors, servo mechanisms, and machine safety.
• Experience in Industrial Automation Machine Design, jigs and fixtures.
• Practical experience supporting machine assembly, troubleshooting, installation, and commissioning.
• Project management capability is an added advantage.
• Ability to prepare BOMs, technical reports, design calculations, and project documentation.
• Familiar with manufacturing process and materials.
• Visit customer's site/factory when required for discussion and product/parts measurement.
• Meet with customer to establish requirements for new or existing product/system design
• Experience working with packaging, consumer products, or other manufacturing industries would be an advantage.
• Good command of Thai and working proficiency in English for technical documents, emails, manuals, supplier communication, and customer discussions.
• International work travel may be required.

• Able to work in Chonburi.
• Able to travel to customer sites in Chonburi, Rayong, and other locations when required.
• Occasional travel may be required.
• Able to work outside normal business hours during critical installation or commissioning periods where necessary.
• A valid driving license and personal transportation would be an advantage.
