Position OverviewThe Material Planning Officer plays a critical role in managing raw materials to ensure that the production process operates efficiently and smoothly. This position requires strong data analysis, strategic planning, and coordination skills to ensure sufficient material availability in line with the production plan, while maintaining optimal inventory levels.
Candidates should have a basic engineering background to enable a solid understanding of manufacturing processes and Bill of Materials (BOM).
Key Responsibilities
- Material Planning and Purchasing.
- Calculate and plan the procurement of raw materials and components in alignment with the production schedule.
- Analyze material requirements based on Bill of Materials (BOM), current inventory levels, and lead times.
Inventory Management
- Manage inventory levels (e.g. Safety Stock, Reorder Point) to ensure continuous production while avoiding excess inventory and high holding costs.
- Monitor and resolve discrepancies related to inventory data accuracy.
- Supplier Coordination and Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of raw materials in accordance with agreed terms and conditions.
- Coordinate with Purchasing, Production, and Warehouse departments to resolve material-related issues and support smooth production planning.
Efficiency Improvement and Cost Reduction
- Identify opportunities to reduce production costs related to material procurement and inventory management.
- Take proactive actions to prevent production downtime caused by material shortages.
System Utilization
- Utilize Material Requirements Planning (MRP) or ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle) to effectively manage material demand, purchasing activities, and inventory tracking.
