Responsibilities
JOB SUMMARY:
- Conduct mechanical, electrical-mechanical, resonance, and vibration-based failure analysis on suspension components and related products. Support manufacturing, NPI, Metrology, and cross-functional engineering teams by identifying root causes, validating failure mechanisms, driving corrective/preventive actions, and contributing to product performance improvement. Provide accurate technical assessments, structured problem-solving support, and clear communication of findings.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead root cause investigations for failures involving mechanical, electrical, thermal, and process related behaviors.
- Perform resonance, vibration, modal, and dynamics-based analysis to identify failure mechanisms.
- Analyze electrical signatures, thermal response, material behavior, and process conditions to confirm root causes.
- Validate findings using FEA, DOE, experiments, and correlation analysis to ensure technical accuracy.
- Recommend and support implementation of corrective actions to improve product performance and robustness.
- Drive preventive actions to eliminate repeated failure occurrences.
- Ensure FA turnaround time achievement to provide effective failure analysis.
- Prepare clear, concise FA reports, summaries, and technical communications for internal and external customers.
- Ensure accuracy and traceability of FA data, results, and verification steps.
- Work closely with PE, PLM, Metrology, MSL, Test Development, DE, CQE engineering teams to accelerate closure of FA activities.
- Support DFM discussions and new product characterization during NPI phases.
- Recommend improvements in measurement systems, analysis methods, and data collection capability.
Qualifications
Education Required:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics Engineering or related field.
Skill Required:
- Strong understanding of vibrations/dynamics, FRF, structural behavior, and modeling interpretation.
- Knowledge of HDD suspension characteristics, statistics, and engineering analysis methods.
- Effective communication skills, teamwork, and ability to handle cross-functional tasks.
Experience:
- 2-5 years in Failure Analysis, product design, dynamic/vibration engineering, or related fields.
- Software experiences in statistical analysis (Minitab or JMP) and programing/coding in python preferred.
