Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities: Procurement Engineer (R&D and New Model)
1. Engineering Procurement & Sourcing
-Engineering Drawing Analysis: Read and interpret engineering drawings to understand technical specifications, dimensions, and tolerances, establishing clear criteria for sourcing materials and components.
-Material Grade Management: Evaluate and select appropriate raw material grades (e.g., engineering plastics, metals, assembly parts) to meet OEM customer standards. Propose alternative materials with equivalent or superior quality to optimize costs.
-New Supplier Sourcing: Identify, screen, and benchmark potential new suppliers locally and internationally who have the capability to manufacture parts for New Model projects.
2. Cost Management & Negotiation
-Strategic Negotiation: Negotiate pricing, payment terms (credit terms), and lead times with suppliers to achieve the most competitive and optimal costs.
-Cost Breakdown Analysis: Analyze suppliers' cost structures—including material, labor, machine, and overhead costs—to evaluate price reasonableness.
-Cost Reduction (VA/VE) Initiatives: Initiate and execute Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VA/VE) activities in collaboration with the R&D team and suppliers to reduce production costs while maintaining or enhancing product quality.
3. Supplier Quality & IATF 16949 Compliance
-Supplier Audit & Selection: Conduct on-site supplier audits to ensure their manufacturing processes and quality management systems strictly comply with IATF 16949:2016 requirements.
-New Part Process Control (PPAP & APQP Support): Coordinate with suppliers and internal cross-functional teams to track the submission of Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) documents and manage Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) to meet project timelines.
-Supplier Performance Evaluation: Perform periodic evaluations (monthly/annually) of suppliers based on Quality, Delivery, and Cost (QDC). Drive corrective and preventive actions (e.g., CAR, 8D Reports) when non-conformances arise.
4. Cross-Functional & Project Coordination (New Model)
-R&D Collaboration: Provide consultation and insights on sourcing feasibility from the early stages of product design and development.
-Timeline Management: Monitor and track the status of mold/tooling fabrication and prototype/trial parts production, ensuring readiness for testing according to the New Model project schedule.
-Risk Management: Assess and develop contingency plans for potential supply chain risks (e.g., material shortages, delivery delays) to prevent any disruptions to the production timeline.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related fields.
- Experience: Minimum 5-7 years of direct experience as a Procurement Engineer, Sourcing Engineer, or Senior Buyer, specifically within the Automotive Tier 1 or OEM industry.
Technical Knowledge
- Proficient in reading, interpreting, and analyzing Engineering Drawings and technical specifications.
- In-depth understanding of Material Grades and characteristics commonly used in automotive manufacturing (e.g., engineering plastics, injection molding resins, metals, and tooling).
Quality Management Systems: Solid knowledge and practical experience with IATF 16949:2016 standards and automotive Core Tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA). Experience in conducting Supplier Audits is highly preferred.
Core Skills:
- Proven track record in strategic negotiation, cost reduction initiatives (VA/VE), and supplier performance management.
- Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
Personal Attributes: Highly resilient, adaptable to fast-paced environments, and capable of working effectively under pressure to meet strict New Model project timelines.
Language & IT Proficiency: Good command of written and spoken English for business communication and negotiation. Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office.
