Job Summary
The Immunology Hub at the Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU), an internationally recognised research partnership between Mahidol University and the University of Oxford, is seeking a motivated Research Assistant (Immunology) to support research on emerging and neglected infectious diseases affecting Thailand and the global community.
The successful candidate will join a newly established immunology research unit and work alongside an internationally recognised team with extensive expertise in infectious disease immunology and global research collaborations. We welcome applications from candidates with a Master's degree or experienced Bachelor's-level scientists who are passionate about infectious disease research and laboratory science.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with laboratory and research activities related to immunology and infectious diseases, including experimental work as required by ongoing research projects.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and assist with data collection, analysis, and presentation of research findings.
- Support day-to-day laboratory activities.
- Work collaboratively with researchers, students, clinicians, and research partners.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications
- Master's degree in Immunology, Microbiology, Virology, Medical Technology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field; or a Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline with substantial laboratory research experience.
- Practical laboratory experience in biomedical research or a related field.
- Experience with at least one of the following: cell culture, immunological assays (e.g., ELISA), molecular biology techniques, or other relevant biomedical laboratory methods.
- Interest in immunology, infectious diseases, and biomedical research.
- Good written and spoken English.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience with additional laboratory techniques such as flow cytometry, protein expression and purification, virus culture, molecular cloning, PCR, or related methods.
- Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and biosafety procedures.
- Experience in laboratory management, equipment maintenance, or inventory control.
- Good computer literacy, including proficiency in standard office software applications.

The salary will be based on MORU scales and will depend on experience and qualifications.

About Mahidol-Oxford Research Unit,
Mahidol-Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU) is a medical research collaboration between the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, the University of Oxford, and the Wellcome Trust (UK). Our main research interests are the epidemiology, diagnosis, pathophysiology and treatment of malaria, scrub typhus, melioidosis, leptospirosis and other tropical infections which impose a substantial disease burden on rural populations throughout this populous region.
