About the role
The Immunology Hub at the Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit (MORU), an internationally recognised research partnership between Mahidol University and the University of Oxford, is seeking an outstanding Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join a multidisciplinary team investigating immune responses to emerging and neglected infectious diseases affecting Thailand and the global community.
The successful candidate will lead laboratory-based studies investigating humoral immune responses to infectious diseases, including antibody responses, immune biomarkers, and host–pathogen interactions. The position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of a newly established Immunology Hub and to work within a collaborative research environment with national and international partners.
Key responsibilities
Design, plan, and conduct independent and collaborative research projects investigating immune responses to infectious diseases.
Develop, optimise, and apply immunological, molecular biology, and protein-based laboratory techniques to address research questions.
Design, perform, and interpret experiments involving recombinant protein expression, protein purification and characterisation, mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry, and immunological assays.
Analyse experimental data and contribute to scientific publications, conference presentations, grant applications, and technical reports.
Contribute to the development of new research directions and collaborative projects within the Immunology Hub.
Mentor research assistants, postgraduate students, and visiting researchers, providing technical guidance and laboratory training.
Assist in establishing and maintaining laboratory capabilities, including SOP development, equipment management, quality assurance, and biosafety compliance.
Collaborate with clinicians, scientists, and research partners in Thailand and internationally.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications
PhD in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Virology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or a closely related discipline.
Demonstrated research experience in immunology and/or infectious diseases.
Expertise in molecular and cellular immunology techniques, with hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture, molecular biology techniques, recombinant protein expression, protein purification and characterisation, immunological assays (e.g., ELISA), or flow cytometry.
Demonstrated ability to design, optimise, troubleshoot, and interpret laboratory experiments independently.
Track record of peer-reviewed publications or other relevant research outputs.
Excellent written and spoken English.
Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience in immunology, antibody biology, B-cell immunology, or T-cell immunology.
Experience with viral immunology, bacteriology, host–pathogen interactions, or vaccine immunology.
Experience with advanced immunological techniques, such as multiplex immunoassays, neutralisation assays, high-parameter flow cytometry, or single-cell technologies.
Experience supervising students or junior researchers.
Experience working within multidisciplinary and international research collaborations.
Experience contributing to research grant applications and project development.
Personal Attributes
Passionate about scientific discovery and translational immunology research.
Highly motivated, proactive, and capable of managing multiple research activities.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Commitment to scientific integrity, reproducibility, and research excellence.
Collaborative, supportive, and enthusiastic about contributing to the growth of a newly established Immunology Hub.
What We Offer

A collaborative and internationally connected research environment with leading researchers from Mahidol University, the University of Oxford, and global partner institutions.
Access to advanced laboratory facilities and opportunities to develop cutting-edge immunological research.
Opportunities to lead publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and present research at international scientific conferences.
Opportunities to contribute to grant development and build an independent research profile.
Mentorship to support career progression towards research leadership, independent fellowships, and faculty positions.
