Abundant
with fertile forest, the Kanchanaburi Province along the Thai-Myanmar
border is the origin of the Kwai Noi and Kwai Yai Rivers which
are the most important natural resources for the people of this
province. Situated in the western part of Thailand, this forest
had also been the legendary home of the ancient adventurers whose
tales had been recorded into stories which deeply fascinated the
modern day nature lovers. The Kwai Noi River has been originated
from the Thanon Thongchai and Tanaosri Mountain ranges, at the
height of approximately 500-1,000 meters from sea level. In the
old days when the land transportation was inconvenient, the Kwai
Noi River was used as a river route for travelers from Kanchanaburi
to Thongphaphum or even further to Sangklaburi.
Nowadays,
with the development of the highway No. 323, the route of the
Kwai Noi River from Thongphaphum has eventually become known as
a legendary route.
In fact,
proof of the experience in the Kwai Noi River has been reflected
by the travelling wonder of the kayak, along the hundred bent
riverways from Thongphaphum to Saiyok, at the length of almost
90 kilometers. Although the route will not be totally smooth,
the ride has been guaranteed to be safe and enjoyable. Also, throughout
the whole natural route of the Kwai Noi, the travelers will be
impressed by the lifestyles of the Mon community and Karen hilltribe
living along the river.
