Responsibilities
- Design electrical systems for new machines and equipment, including power distribution, control panels, wiring diagrams, and component selection.
- Carry out machine improvement projects to reduce breakdowns, cycle time, and defects, using root-cause analysis (Why-Why, FMEA, 8D).
- Develop and modify PLC and HMI programs (Mitsubishi, Keyence) together with the PLC technician.
- Prepare and maintain electrical drawings, BOMs, I/O lists, and design documents for handover and knowledge sharing.
- Make sure designs follow electrical and machine safety standards, such as emergency stop circuits, safety relays and interlocks, earthing, and panel ratings.
- Take part in joint design reviews with Mechanical Engineers at key project milestones.
- Support data integration by defining PLC tags and signals for MES, OEE, and dashboard systems.
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers on specifications, quotations, installation, and commissioning.
- Support production and maintenance teams during machine trials, start-up, and troubleshooting.
- Train technicians and operators on new or modified equipment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, or Control/Automation Engineering.
- At least 2–5 years of experience in machine design, automation, or maintenance engineering in manufacturing.
- Hands-on PLC programming experience, with Mitsubishi and/or Keyence preferred (Omron and Siemens are a plus).
- Able to read and create electrical drawings, with AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN preferred.
- Understanding of sensors, servo and inverter drives, pneumatics, and industrial networks such as CC-Link, EtherNet/IP, and Modbus.
- Preferred Skills
- Experience with SCADA, MES, or industrial data collection (OPC UA, MQTT, SQL).
- Knowledge of OEE, TPM, Kaizen, or Lean manufacturing.
- Experience in glass, electronics, or high-precision manufacturing.
- Communication in English (Japanese is a plus).
- A systematic, well-documented working style that fits a team environment.
